Hybrid Solar System with Battery Backup

A hybrid system works in tandem with the utility grid and stores energy in a battery, ensuring essential loads keep running during power cuts while you still save on your electricity bill.

Quick answer

What Is a Hybrid Solar System?

A hybrid system cuts your bill through net metering and uses a battery to keep essential loads running during power cuts.

The hybrid inverter switches automatically between solar, battery, and grid. Panels, inverter, and battery are sized together around the loads you want to keep running during an outage.

How It Works

Smart Switching Between Solar, Battery, and Grid

  • Sunny Day

Solar powers your loads first, any excess power charges the battery, and the remaining surplus is exported to the grid.

  • Evening and Night

The battery supplies power first, then the grid takes over when the battery reaches its discharge limit.

  • Power Cut

The inverter instantly isolates your backup circuit, and the battery powers your critical loads.

  • Grid Returns

The system reconnects automatically and recharges the battery.

One Complete System

Solar, Battery, and Backup, Planned Together

The panels, hybrid inverter, and battery are sized as a unified system around the critical loads you want to keep running during an outage.

  • The battery is sized specifically for your backup loads.
  • The system switches over automatically during a power cut.
  • You can monitor generation and storage live on your phone.

Backup Loads

What Runs During a Power Cut?

Backing up every circuit raises the initial system cost significantly, so we design and size the battery bank strictly for the loads you choose.

Usually Backed Up

  • Lights and fans
  • Wi-Fi and computers
  • Refrigerators
  • Televisions and small appliances

Usually Not Backed Up

  • Geysers and room heaters
  • Induction cooktops
  • Large water pumps
  • Multiple air conditioners simultaneously

Pros and Limits

Is Hybrid Right for You?

Advantages

  • Essential loads stay on during outages.
  • You can use stored solar power after sunset.
  • The backup is silent and emission-free.
  • You can export surplus power where net metering is approved.

Keep in Mind

  • The upfront cost is higher than on-grid.
  • Batteries need replacing before the panels do.
  • Payback takes longer, as storage adds cost but not generation.

Still have a question?

Talk to our team, Monday to Saturday, 10 am to 7 pm.

How is a hybrid system sized?

Three parts are sized separately: the panels for your daily units, the inverter for the loads that run together, and the battery for the backup time you need.

How long will the battery last in a power cut?

Backup time is the usable battery energy divided by the connected load. Our engineer works this out for your chosen loads.

Is a hybrid system eligible for subsidy?

A residential grid-connected hybrid system may qualify if it meets the scheme rules and DISCOM approves net metering. The subsidy does not cover the battery.

Can I add a battery later?

Some hybrid inverters can run without a battery at first. Ask our engineer whether this fits your plan.
